"A fun-filled celebration of Rain ! A day at the sludgy
fields"
"Sunshine brings happiness but those who have danced in
the rain know better as the heaven opens and raindrops
drizzle the earth, old wells revive, tea coloured puddles
form wet fields a deep serenade of peace overwhelms the
earth "
Trinity Central School has been captivating the essence and
traditions of Udupi through amazing presentations over the
years. This was proved yet again as the school hosted “Let’s
get sludgy" a day at the sludgy fields” on the 29th of June
2024 at Bhandasale fields of Perampalli.
The president of the program Rev.Dr.John Alwyn Dias, chief
guest Mr. Yashpal Suvarna, MLA of Udupi, "Tulunada Manikya"
Mr Aravinda Bolar, a famous comedian of Tulu film industry,
Rev Fr Vishal Lobo, Parish Priest Perampally, the Principal
Rev. Fr. Dominic Sunil Lobo, the Vice Principal and the
Administrator Rev. Fr. Ravi Rajesh Serrao, Academic
Coordinator Ms. Magdalina Lewis, PTA president Mr. Srinivas
G were present on the dais. To the beats of the drum,
resonance of trumpets and with a thunderous applause the
guests were escorted in a ceremonial way. With grace and
poise, the fidelity for our culture was glorified with the
procession from the school to the Bhandasale field.
A wonderful day began by glorifying the Almighty, through a
prayer song sung by the staff. Ms. Benta Dsouza welcomed the
gathering.
In his message, Mr.Yashpal Suvarna MLA of Udupi, highlighted
the benefits of sludgy day and praised the school for
organizing such an event. He said, “This is the first time a
school has organized an event like this." He stressed that
such programmes will help the children to bring them into
the rural mindset and future generations can understand our
tradition. He also remembered his school days where there
was no such celebration, so he thanked the institution for
taking a commendable step in organizing the event.
Mr.Aravind Bolar, a well known artist observed on the
occasion, that 'Modern kids are not aware of the
significance of agricultural activities. He said that
earlier people used to spend their whole day in muddy
fields, but now it's just for one day. Such events help the
children to understand the origins of rice and our
traditions. He also expressed his contentment for being part
of the occasion. He emphasized the advantages of getting
ourselves sludgy as it is a medicinal mud bath for our
bodies. He concluded his speech in a humorous way by sharing
some of his life experiences.
Fr Vishal Lobo, Parish Priest of Perampally highlighted the
significance of event and our responsibility and role
towards environment.
Fr John Alwyn Dias, president of the program, acclaimed the
institution for rediscovering and reconnecting with the
culture through the event. He also expressed the gratitude
to the farmers and their hard work through his words of
wisdom.on this occasion. He encouraged the parents and
teachers to teach the importance of labour and gratitude
towards mother earth to the students.
All the chief guests were felicitated by the Principal along
with all the dignitaries on the dais. Ms. Reshma rendered
the vote of thanks. The entire formal program was compered
by Ms. Smitha Ammanna.
After the formal program, the sludgy fields were open to all
the children along with their parents. The following
activities were conducted on this day which the participants
thoroughly enjoyed; Treasure hunt, backward walk, 100mtrs
race, volley ball, throw ball, tug-of-war, parent carrying
the child on the back, soge race, musical chair, bomb in the
city, buffalo race so on and so forth.
It is said, ‘Count the memories, not the calories’, and for
sure the calorie count for children and adults went out of
the door, as they made their tummies happy with the
traditional food served by the supporting staff. Playing in
the rain, especially in the fields was such joy. Likewise
for a day of fun in the lush green and brown tinted sludge
fields of Perampalli.
We the trinitarians believe that the family that prays eats
and plays together stays together. True to this fact, indeed
it was a valuable and fun filled experience.
